Kia announces a Recall on certain models manufactured between 2008 and 2015.

5 February 2025 – Effective today, Kia South Africa will conduct a Recall on 18,800 vehicles across five model ranges, all related to the same component. The Recall serves to inspect the vehicle’s Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) in the engine bay, which has the potential to cause an electrical short circuit and lead to engine room damage. Kia will inspect all affected vehicles brought to its dealer network and replace the fuses connected to the HECU with new and improved components to prevent any risk.

Affected model ranges include:

  • Sportage (KM), 2009 and 2010
  • Cerato (TD), 2010 and 2013
  • Soul (AM), 2010 and 2013
  • Sportage (SL), 2009 and 2013
  • Sorento (XM), 2010 and 2014
  • Optima (TF), 2010 and 2015

Customers who drive a Kia vehicle that might be affected can verify their vehicle’s status by doing a VIN check via the vehicle campaign check functionality on www.kia.co.za: customers simply need to input their vehicle’s VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). Alternatively, customers can contact the Kia South Africa Customer Care Call Centre on 011 776 8800 or enquire via their nearest Kia dealership (www.kia.co.za/dealerships).

Apart from announcing the recall campaign on Kia South Africa’s social media networks, the company will also make every effort to contact owners via SMS, e-mail and telephonic notifications.

Kia dealerships will implement the Recall at no charge to the vehicle owner.
