The introduction of the new X-Line derivative to the Kia Picanto range saw this compact hatchback gain an adventurous spirit. As an X-Line variant, the Picanto exudes a sporty charm thanks to its eye-catching design while this sporty theme continues
seamlessly inside the cabin. The quality is exceptional too, a rarity in this price range.
Modern well-appointed interior: Despite its compact exterior, the interior feels surprisingly roomy too, easily comfortable of transporting four adults in comfort. While boot space is typically limited in entry-level hatchbacks, the Picanto’s rear folding seats make transporting larger items like golf bags effortless. The inclusion of convenient features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, air-conditioning, power windows, leather upholstery and a multi-function steering wheel add a layer of comfort to daily drives in the X-Line.
The X-Line boasts a vast array of modern specification including two-tone artificial leather upholstery and a new eight-inch colour touchscreen that can mirror smartphone functionality via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while also incorporating a reverse camera with dynamic guidelines.
The X-Line trim is only available in conjunction with the 1.25-litre engine that offers 61kW and 122Nm of torque. The engine offers nippy yet frugal performance which makes it ideal for a city runabout of adventurer like the Picanto X-Line.
This Picanto truly embodies the essence of fun, with an effortless and enjoyable driving experience that is perfect for everyday use. The clutch and gearbox operations are smooth and user friendly, while the 1.2-litre engine performed well above expectations, delivering impressive response, especially in urban areas. Despite a spirited driving style, the Picanto X-Line proved to be remarkably fuel efficient, recording a consumption of just over 6,0 litres per 100 kilometres during the month that we spent with it. With a more conservative driving approach, achieving around 5,0 litres per 100km should be easily attainable.
Ensuring strength and occupant safety is the fact that 44% of the bodyshell has been cast in Advanced High-Strength Steel, with this material used in areas such as the floor pan, roof rails, A and B pillars and engine bay. In addition ABS and dual front airbags are in place to keep occupants safe.
With crossover styling, high-tech features and go anywhere attitude, the X-Line offers a fresh spirit of adventure to the compact segment. All new Picanto models are sold with Kia’s industry-leading unlimited kilometre/five-year warranty as well as a pre-paid two-year/30 000km service plan which means that both new and pre-owned models come with an added layer of peace of mind as standard.
