Road trips are calling

Ah, summer days! The season when the road calls our names and begs us to go on road trips to discover places unknown, create memories and foster moments with those we love.

Ah, summer days! You’ve got to love them… but your vehicle needs to love them too! The only way for that to happen is for your vehicle to be in tip-top condition, ensuring all parties have a safe and comfortable journey.

Things to check in the summertime

Before you embark on your inspiring journey, here are 5 essential vehicle checks to do:

  1. Airconditioner - Of course, we’d begin with the most important check as the African heat has us reaching for the aircon the moment we step into our vehicles. Check your air conditioner is working correctly by switching on the AC (your engine must be on), setting the AC to the lowest temperature and putting it on full blast. If the air is not cooling after a few minutes, you may need to take your vehicle to the nearest dealership to check what’s wrong.

  2. Tyres - As you’ll be travelling a lot, it’s best to check that your tread depth and tyre pressure are correct. Also, check that there are no punctures or tears on the sidewalls of your tyres.

  3. Wipers - Mzansi is known for its summer rains, so it’s best to check that your wiper blades are in good working condition to ensure you have full visibility in wet and rainy conditions. Remember to check that the windshield washer fluid bottle is also full.

  4. Battery - In the same way you need to check your battery in winter, you need to check it in summer too, because who wants to be left on the side of the road in the scorching sun?

  5. Fluids - Naturally, you should be checking the fluids every time you fill your tank. Before you go on your journey, ensure your water and oil levels are correct.

Make memories to last a lifetime

Now that you’ve checked the essentials; airconditioner, tyres, wipers, battery and fluids, your journey should be as breezy as the air coming out of your aircon!

And remember, no matter where the road takes you, find the inspiration that drives you, stay safe, and most importantly, make memories that will last a lifetime.

Bonus tip: remember to pack water and snacks to keep you hydrated and fuelled for the journey ahead.
